It is very much a Faerie story and a story of the hero's journey, but it is never predictable or boring.

The beginning and middle of this book were great, but the ending just didn't make any sense to me. I hope Yves Meynard makes a continuation to this tale because it might clear up the odd conclusion to 'The Book of Knights.'
Nothing seems simpler and yet is harder to write than a good fairy tale. Hans Christian Andersen could do it, and so could Oscar Wilde. My favorite, though, has always been Lord Dunsany, the finest fantasy writer of the twentieth century. No one has ever matched his distinctive blend of gossamer prose and wild invention, but Yves Meynard comes closer than anyone. "The Book of Knights" is sheer delight. I hope he will treat us to many more adventures of Sir Adelrune, that wonderfully likeable, but lethal, innocent.
"The book of Knights" starts off about a young boy named Adelrune who finds a book- describing many different knights- in his foster parents attic. He doesn't believe in "The Rule" ( the laws of their community) and runs away to seek a man named Rainer who trains him to be a knight. Within that time he physically ages 6 years in one night ( on puropse). So, the rest of the story takes place when he's around 19 yrs. old. --- This is a great, exciting book that I really enjoyed. It has a lot to keep you interested. My brother got this for me for Christmas and I really liked it! It's a great book if you like fantasy. With wierd creatures and stuff!
I picked this one up because the author's name was familiar (a long story), and am happy to say it was the best move I've made in a long time. If you enjoy Jack Vance as much as I do, and have been searching for another author with the same high level of flair, wit, and style, then you'll be happy to hear that you've finally found one. His name is Yves Meynard. If you didn't already know this novel had been written by someone else you would swear you were reading a previously undiscovered Vance story -- which, in my opinion, is the highest compliment that can be paid to *any* writer. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed with this novel, and any future works by Yves Meynard should be added to your "buy on sight" list.
Once I read this at the age of 10 and I understood nothing except that for some reason I knew it was good, now at the age of 17 I found it by chance and knew that I will be reading it again and again for years to come.
I'm partial to history, romance history based on some facts, fantasy books with some emotional content, but this book is pretty good. I would say though it for those just starting out reading fantasy books and for pre-teens. I would highly recommend this for young adults.
