I wasn't sure what to expect when I read this book. It'd been sitting on my kindle for a while and I figured what the heck. It was a nice, light read that amused me. There were some predicable spots where I rolled my eyes but no yelling at my kindle which is always a good thing.

I liked Elizabeth and her sometimes cringe-worthy moments. In fact I could put myself in her shoes since we're about the same age. I can't imagine entering the dating scene at this age and hope I won't have to.

There was a decent amount of plot to this story, not just the usual "Woman enters dating scene, has a crappy date or two, falls in love". There were a few side plots and characters that I really enjoyed. Even better, one of her best friends is gay and you wouldn't know it by the way he acted. *gasp* No silly, over-the-top gay guy! It was a refreshing change.

I gave this a 3 and half because I liked the story although it's not my usual type of read. Less blood and gore. ;) But I would definitely read more by this author.

If you've ever been divorced or known the heartache of a breakup, then you know exactly what Elizabeth, aka Lizzie, the heroine of this book, is feeling. Can you blame her for casting a spell on her ex when she discovers that she has inherited the familial gypsy power?

The problem is that all of Lizzie's spells have unexpected results. Of course, that's usually the case with wishes. Lizzie learns the hard way that she really should be careful what she wishes for.

Amusing and filled with wonderful characters, not to mention a hunky cop in uniform as hero, this book is endearing. Toss in a dollop of steamy sex, and you have a book that will delight you and make you look for more by this author.
I had just finished reading a very complex and challenging novel and wanted to read something that wouldn't be quite so intense. I probably moved too far in the other direction when I chose this novel. If I hadn't paid for it on my , I doubt I would have finished it.

If you enjoy novels which deal with a woman's feelings, then this will probably suit you quite well. This main character had been divorced for one year, in fact it was the anniversary of that divorce, but she had never worked through all the feelings she had concerning that cataclysmic happening in her life. The reader is taken on a seemingly endless round of revelations of how she feels now about the divorce, her ex-husband and his new bride. How she feels about herself is also covered in great detail as well as how she feels about her family members, friends, business partner and the men she meets. It's a "feelings" kind of book. Into this mix of emotions comes the revelation that Elizabeth's great, great, great grandmother (I may have missed a "great" somewhere but you get the idea) had been a gypsy and her magical powers had been handed down through the female line. Elizabeth was unaware of this family history until her grandmother gave the powers to her. It seems she could cast spells on people and influence how they felt and acted by placing the spell into products she baked and then had her target (or victim) eat the cake, cookie or muffin. She is, after all, a baker by profession and is the co-owner of a business specializing in wedding cakes. Of course, since she cast these spells without benefit of understanding what reactions they would or might cause, there were many unexpected results from the spells.

If you enjoy reading about a heroine who constantly makes incredibly silly mistakes which lead her into trouble, then, once again, this novel will probably suit your reading tastes. For me, there were too many "oops" moments. They didn't make Elizabeth an endearing character for me, they made her a woman with scant control over what words came out of her mouth and someone who didn't often engage in rational thinking.

As I say, I think I just chose something much too light and insubstantial. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this book if you enjoy reading books with the type of character and plot premise I've described.
Solid writing, fun premise, and likable characters make this cute romance something worth reading.

The Good Funny, real and smart heroine, fleshed out supporting cast, solid leading man, interesting premise that gives the average story a spark, well written, easy read (took about 3 hours to read with a lunch break), comical, but not asinine, HEA intact

The Bad poor editing and e-book conversion, a little light on romance development, we could have used more of our leading man and less if the peripheral characters, a little too cheesy, sweet, and light for my tastes, too predictable, expansion of conflict might have been nice, there are some bits that are too vague to be worth mentioning, a bit cliched as far as the heart of the heroine's conflict and wrap up goes

All in all though, this is a solid contemporary fantasy romance. Recommended for a light read that will make you feel good.

And sometimes, that is exactly what you need.
