Fire In You Wait for You Series Volume 6 J Lynn Jennifer L Armentrout 9780997969122 Books

I have read almost all of Jennifer Armentrout/ J.Lynn's books. For the most part I have loved all of them but there was something about the majority of the Wait for You series that I just didn't like, honestly I think I only liked Avery/Cam and Reece/Roxy stories.

This story was about Jillian and Brock, the plot of the story was good but I just felt the execution was lacking. You have two people who grew up together and were best friends. Jillian was in love with Brock for most of her childhood but he never saw her as anything other than a little sister. One night Jillian thinks things could change between them but ends up heartbroken and then the accident happens. After that the two have a falling out and don't speak or see each other for 6 years.

The story starts in present day after the 6 years of no contact with them finally seeing each other again. They are thrust together as co-workers at Jillian's family business. This is where I started to have trouble with the two of them because it felt to rushed for me. There was a lot of history between them but there was also a lot of hurt and pain which we are told about through flashbacks. In present day they start with Jillian being wary of Brock and him trying to get her to be friends. She agrees and its like a week after that they are trying to be friends as if nothing has happened between them in the past that caused 6 years of silence, and move pretty quickly to lovers. It was just to quick for me and they have maybe a couple five minute conversations saying sorry to each other and that they should move forward from the past. You don't just go 6 years without contact and have a five minute conversation and start a relationship. I felt it would have been better if they got reacquainted with each other as friends for a while, took it slow and built up to something more instead of rushing. Also I just didn't like Brock, it felt like he kind of just bulldozed his way back into Jillian's life because he decided that he finally felt more for her than friendship. Jillian has doubts about Brocks true feelings for her and whether they will last because of their past and he gets mad and hurt that she questions his feelings. He admitted to knowing how she felt about him all those years ago but he was selfish and from the flashbacks it seemed to took advantage of them. Why wouldn't she question his sincerity??

Another thing that bugged me was that there seemed to be an inconsistency about the age difference between the two. We are told in the first chapters that she is 26 and he is 34 which is an 8 year difference. In a flashback Brock took her to her senior prom which leads us to assume that Jillian is 17/18 and are told Brock was 23 at the time. That is only a 5 or 6 year difference. In another flashback Brock came to live with them when he was 14 and Jillian was only 8 which again is a 6 year difference. I know it is a small thing, but trying to read and picture the characters and get to know them and to have details about them change throughout the book is annoying.

There were also several typos throughout that I think simple editing should have caught.

Overall the book was okay and if you liked all the other books in the series than you probably won't mind this one.

Fire In You Wait for You Series Volume 6 J Lynn Jennifer L Armentrout 9780997969122 Books Reviews

OH JLA, you have a gift! I love reading your books!

Jennifer L. Armentrout does have a way with words. Her romance novels are sweet while having a real feel to them. Her characters are flawed and plagued with their own insecurities but they have a way of moving forward and becoming stronger. Her heroines don't give up. A perfect example is Jillian.

Jillian has been in love with Brock Mitchell since he showed up at their home when she was just eight. For years, she followed him everywhere. She was his shadow until a terrible night where she realized he didn't love her and she almost lost her life, Now years later, she has decided to live again. She's ready to join the family business and do a good job at it even if Broke is part of this new chapter in her life.

Broke "the Beast" Mitchell lost his best friend overnight. He blames himself for being blind to Jillian's love. Seeing her again after six years does nothing else that to reinforce his commitment to developed a new bond with her. He's ready to move forward with Jillian but not as friends. This time he has his eyes wide open and he wants everything Jillian is willing to give.

This is a second chance romance but is also a novel about forgiveness, self-image, the healing power of love. All things that are part of our daily lives. I know this is part of the reason why JLA's books resonate with me. Her characters are realistic and I can sympathize with them. I also can fall head over heals with the things the guys say. They can turn me into a pile of goo.

3 Things I like about Jillian

1-Her decision to live again
2-Sticking to loving a cat with questionable manners
3- Letting go of the past and the blame

3 Things I liked about Brock

1- The no-nonsense attitude
2- Remembering things Jillian liked years ago
3- Getting his head out of his a**

I'm hoping since JLA mentioning Katie's love life that I get to meet him next.

Cliffhanger No

4/5 Fangs
 4 stars!

“Scars, whether physical or emotional, could be not just a representation of survival but also a story of hope.”

Reading a J Lynn book always feels like coming home.

The sixth book in this series, Fire In You, follows the characters Jillian and Brock. When Jillian was younger she was in love with Brock, following him around everywhere like a puppy dog. But one night of tragedy changed that, and Jillian hasn't been the same since. Now, about six years later, Jillian has agreed to go to work for her dad, and Brock enters her life once again. But Jillian has changed, immensely, and she refuses to go back to the way things were between them while Brock is insistent on being in her life again.

“What in the actual hell of all nine circles of Hell was this?”

There isn't a book in this series I haven't enjoyed or loved. This one started out very strong, I like how JLA develops her heroines so we get a sense of who they are before we get more of the story. I could totally see where Jillian was coming from, her insecurities and bewilderment at Brock's sudden interest in her. But I think his big brotherly feelings did develop into something more, I just wish we saw more of his journey than hers.

I devoured this book beginning to end. I've been in a romance slump lately and was wary of reading this, but JLA delivered a story that sucked me in and wasn't the same as everything else. There's a reason she's one of my favorite authors, she almost never lets you down. If you're in the mood for a romance to make you smile, this is the book for you.

“I love you because you have this fire in you that you don't even recognise, but I do. You're strong and you're a survivor.”
